Gulmit welcomes autumn

Autumn is creeping in which declares the beginning of wedding season in Gulmit. Tariq becomes the pioneer in kicking off the season. Autumn normally is consider as an exit of hot summer and people living in hot areas welcome the season but for the people of Pamir autumn is an alarm of cold weather, which says “Come on hurry up the winter is setting in and you have to gather fire wood for the chill”. On the other hand it is time to reflect back on the harvest, how many sacks of potatoes, wheat, and oat? Which one the best seed for potato? It is also a time to think at other pending ceremonies which might include “Dawath”, “Thoyee”, and off course marriages.

Phander

I have been trying to upload some very good photos from Phander and the old silk route but I could not do so. The internet is too slow to do that anyway I will keep on trying. People who are intrsted in knowing how Pamiri people from Pakistan celebrate their eid should wait for my next blog entry. I will be having some wonderful pictures as well and hope the net problem by then will be resolved. Please keep in touch and let me know if anybody wants any type of information about Pamir - i - Pakistan. Please send me your comments.

Heaven on Earth

I have no doubt in making the claim that Phander is truly a dreamland. God has blessed this area with all beautiful things that includes clear blue water in the streams, huge mountains, green fields and calm snaky river.

Jabbar Bahi in Gulmit Glacier

Jabbar Khan - my eleder brother  Small Regrets  Tayib Jan When I was young one day my elder brother Jabbar Khan went to Shatobar glacier just for sightseeing or just to have a look at our bull which was supposed to be in the nearby pasture, without informing anybody at home. It was a panic in the house we looked everywhere in and around the town asking people if they have seen him. After hours of search, we finally got the information that he has gone to the pasture. We all prayed for his safe return home. When you panic you the words of prayers also keep skipping. We were told that the road is dangerous and long. He wore a red jacket or something like that which I don't exactly remember and it was considered a bad omen and believed it might antagonize fairies living there (I believed the story then). Now when the incident has passed more than 35 years, I regret that why I did not the same mistake because I still do not have an idea how this glacier looks like, especially, when you

The magnificent Kabul

Kabul city Before visiting Kabul I was of the view that it might be a small city but it was really interesting for me to know that it is really a big city. To see the real Kabul one needs to climb the famous Kabul wall and see down around. It is amazing to see that everywhere there is some construction working going on. In a few years from now, Kabul will be really a very nice city.
Shugnan Badakshan, Afghanistan the same beautiful landscape Badkshan located in three different countries, i.e., Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikstan have the nearly the same look having the same water sources, grean fields and mountains. It is really intresting that all these regions Wakhi is widely spoken though there is different in the accent. Beside Wakhi Shugni is spoken in Shugnan and Khorogh which is one of my favorite languages. Shugni are kind, nice and friendly people.
Khrorgh, Tajikistan(please note the landscape)
A view of KKH at Gulmit How many times we cross through this area but we never stop for a while and feel the Comfort that has a magic charm on our mind, body and soul? It is very close to my home and I walk through this road to reach to the main town.
Islamabad is really hot these days and we are waiting for rain. When the weather will change it would be a nice time to write something pleasent in my blog. I have just returned from Gulmit after attending a marriage and enjoying the pleasent weather. So please wait for good stuff to come.
